I hereby bargin Covenant and agree with my Negro Man named John to set him free and Manumit him two years sooner then the time which was promised him by his former Master Mr. Joseph Drake or Joseph D. Smith as specified by a written article now in the hands of John Springstead on condition that he the said John Shall conduct demean and behave himself faithfully obediently and orderly both at home and abroad to me and mine or he ought to do and also to all others for the fulfilment of the above bargin and Covenant thereby bind myself my Executors and Administrators witness my hand and seal the 30th day of May 1815. Manumission of Prince

To all whom it may concern this certifies that a negro man named Prince and a negro woman named Bell belonging to Ferris Cornell of the town of Scarsdale in Westchester County appear to us to be under the age of fifty years and of sufficient ability to provide for them selves given under our hands the tenth day of August 1791. Tompkins Benjamin Stevenson Justices of Peace Caleb Tompkins Benj Cornell Poor Masters Extracted from the original the twenty sixth day of August by Benj Cornell T Clerk 1791 By Caleb Tompkins and Richard M. Popham Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Scarsdale in the County of Westchester — These are to certify that we have examined Mary Scofield a female slave the Property of William Popham of said Town of Scarsdale in the County of Westchester pursuant to the statute in such case made and provided (passed the 8th April 1801) and do find her the said Mary Scofield to be under the age of forty five to wit of the age of eighteen years and of sufficient ability to provide for herself — We do therefore pursuant to the directions of the said Statute order this Certificate to be recorded by the Town Clerk.
