Leah's Final Days
On December 9th 1849, at 10:00 in the morning, Leah Catharine Deyo took her final breaths. According to her husband, there was no pain or struggle: Leah just "dropt asleep quietly in the arms of her Saviour." View entire letter
The daguerreotype shown on the left was taken after her death and is now in the possession of her great nephew, John Jacobs.
Leah Catharine's obituary was found folded inside the small cased glass daguerreotype in John and Katia Jacob's possession. It was originally published in a Newburgh newspaper.
