Sewing Accessories
This "Foliage" sewing machine measures 4 1/2" high and was produced for only a few years by "D. W. Clark" of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Patented in 1858, the machine represents the earliest example in the Collection of Historic Huguenot Street. It is made out of cast gun metal with a brass finish. It is a simple hand crank, straight stitch sewing machine. Since most households did not own sewing machines until the late 1860's, this early patented example is historically significant.
Miniature (Toy) "Midget" cast iron sewing machine with brass fittings. Black and polycrhome, with hand painted floral sprig design along base and body (in red, gold and green). Wooden handle and metal table/bed. Rounded body, very small, possibly for child.
