The Later Years

In 1863, after losing both of their sons to consumption, Julia and Garret moved upstate to Stone Ridge, NY. Stone Ridge was Garret's birthplace and the home of his two brothers, Cornelius and Benjamin Hasbrouck. Unable to buy a home of their own, Julia and Garret were forced into sharing the small stone house of Cornelius and Jane, which caused quite a bit of friction for Julia. She spent the remainder of her life longing for her promenades down Broadway and the closeness she once shared with her mother and siblings.
